Course content

The course topics cover the skin and its functions and explore wound healing physiology, factors affecting wound healing, wound assessment, understanding different wound aetiology and best product decision making and management.

 

Case studies and online assessments are used to encourage you to draw from their learning, relevant research and experience to develop a holistic patient wound management plan.

The course is equivalent to 15 credit points at postgraduate level (AQF levels 8/9). Completion of this course will enable you to apply for advanced standing into postgraduate studies in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at La Trobe University.

You’ll learn:

  • About the anatomy and physiology of the skin.
  • How to recognise the factors affecting wound healing and the importance of maintaining skin integrity
  • To apply evidenced based knowledge in the assessment and planning of care for an individual requiring wound care.

Your study experience

Delivered online over 10 weeks, with tutor support, the expected time commitment for this course is up to 120 hours (50 hours of guided learning, with the balance being wider reading, consolidation of learning and assessment).  

There are two assessment tasks:

  • Online quizzes (worth 40% of the total assessment)
  • Written case study of 2500 words (worth 60% of the total assessment).

No, course fees need to be paid in full before you can commence the course.

I have paid the fee for a short course. When will I have access to the course?  

Access to courses is generally available two weeks in advance of the scheduled course start date, or as advised in the registration confirmation email.  Course materials are made available via our Learning Management System (LMS) for which you will be provided with your username and initial password.

Can I arrange payment with a Purchase Order?
