This microcredential is aimed at people without prior knowledge, and looks into the software tools and technologies for use in testing system defenses. 

 

Together with its companion course, Applied Penetration Testing Fundamentals, this microcredential can be stacked into a subject for potential advanced standing in the Master of Cybersecurity.

  • Penetration testing methodologies and phases
  • Engagement activities before penetration testing
  • Penetration testing reports
  • Penetration testing reconnaissance.

On successful completion of this course, you wil be awarded a digital credential and earn 5 credit points that can be accumulated with its partner course, Applied Penetration Testing Fundamentals, to stack into  'Penetration testing principles (CSE5PEN)', a subject within the Master of Cybersecurity. 

You’ll learn:

This microcredential will equip you with basic skills in:

  • Assessing and using appropriate tools and technologies for use in system testing
  • Evaluating the results of a penetration test and make recommendations to improve system security.

Your study experience

This fully online course is delivered over two weeks.  The total expected time commitment for this course is up to 40 hours, which includes guided learning, extended reading and assessment.  

 

The assessment for this course comprises an online quiz, with a pass rate of 80%.

Access to courses is generally available two weeks in advance of the scheduled course start date, or as advised in the registration confirmation email.  Course materials are made available via our Learning Management System (LMS) for which you will be provided with your username and initial password.
