Why this course?

This microcredential advances on the concepts covered in Introduction to Cybersecurity Governance and will focus on the various regulatory requirements and guidelines pertaining to information security, and how to apply them.

 

Together with its companion course, this microcredential can be stacked into a subject for potential advanced standing in the Master of Cybersecurity.

Course content

Topics covered include:

 

  • The external legal environment, the relationship between governance, risk and compliance and technical and legal requirements in data security.
  • Analysis and application of the various regulatory requirements and guidelines pertaining to information security and learn the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) response function.
  • Metric design, evaluation and metric frameworiks:  what is a 'good' metric and how to align to business goals, operational and legal requirements through the ISACA Business Model for Informaton Security (BMIS).
  • Metric frameworks: translate compliance and security requirements into clear, quantifiable metrics and use these to report on cybersecurity KPIs.  Learn the NIST SP 800-55, Centre for Internet Security (CIS) and ISO/IEC 27004:2016 frameworks.

On successful completion of this course, you wil be awarded a digital credential and earn 10 credit points that can be accumulated with its partner course, 'Introduction to Cybersecurity Governance', to stack into 'Cybersecurity Governance (CSE4IFU)', a subject within the Master of Cybersecurity.

This microcredential will advance on the skills acquired in Introduction to Cybersecurity Governance enabling you to 

  • Interpret and apply the various regulatory requirements and guidelines pertaining to information security

  • Demonstrate how sections in the law create requirements that must be included in the cybersecurity governance business case

  • Use relevant tools for the evaluation of metrics and align metrics to business goals and operational requirements

  • Integrate and apply various elements to develop and deliver a sustainable cybersecurity governance framework and understand its necessity

  • Formulate a cyber security governance framework to support cyber strategy.

Your study experience

The course is delivered online with live sessions, over a 6 week period (including assessment time), and the total expected time commitment for this course is up to 80 hours.  


There are two assessments in this course:

  • Report - Cybersecurity governance framework (2000 words, 60%)
  • Report - The use of metrics and KPIs for measuring the effectiveness of cybersecurity control (2000 words, 40%

Access to courses is generally available two weeks in advance of the scheduled course start date, or as advised in the registration confirmation email.  Course materials are made available via our Learning Management System (LMS) for which you will be provided with your username and initial password.
