Course content

Topics include:

  • Functions, objects, strings and files:  using functions and objects to structure code, advanced usage of strings, and how to use files for persistent storage.
  • Data structures and software errors: three important data structures that are used to manage collections: lists, sets and dictionaries.
  • Modules and structuring and documenting code: using the Python Standard Library to add functionality to programs and how to make code readable and manageable.
  • Algorithm design strategies. 

On successful completion of this course, you will be awarded a digital credential and earn 10 credit points that can be accumulated with its partner course, Programming Fundamentals, to stack into 'Introduction to Programming (CSE4IP)', a subject within the Master of Cybersecurity.

This microcredential will equip you with skills in:

  • Using basic data structures such as lists and dictionaries to solve more complex data processing problems

  • Organising code into functions and understand basic functional programming concepts.

Your study experience

The course is delivered live, online over 4 weeks.  The total expected time commitment for this course is 80 hours.

 

The assessment for this course comprises:

  • Written assignment (40%)
  • Exam (60%).

Access to courses is generally available two weeks in advance of the scheduled course start date, or as advised in the registration confirmation email.  Course materials are made available via our Learning Management System (LMS) for which you will be provided with your username and initial password.

Can I arrange payment with a Purchase Order?
