Course content

Topics include:

  • Normalisation and data manipulation using relational algebra and using the bottom-up approach of database design
  • Understanding the foundations of Structured Query Language (SQL), relational algebra and the basics of data manipulation
  • SQL applied practice and basic PL/SQL - code blocks and persistent objects
  • Evaluate the possible risks and ethical and social considerations relevant to designed systems.

On successful completion of this course, you wil be awarded a digital credential and earn 10 credit points that can be accumulated with its partner course, Introduction to Database Design, to stack into 'Database Fundamentals (CSE4DBF)', a subject within the Master of Cybersecurity. 

You’ll learn:

This microcredential will enhance skills developed in Introduction to Database Design, and giver you skills to:

  • Implement database systems using SQL and advanced PL/SQL including stored procedures and triggers
  • Understand the underlying model of relational database operations using relational algebra
  • Evaluate the risks associated with databases.

Your study experience

The course is delivered online over a 4 week period, and the total expected time commitment for this course is up to 80 hours. 

 

The assessment for this course comprises:

  • Database design and implementation written assignment (40%)
  • Online exam (60%).

No, course fees need to be paid in full before you can commence the course.

I have paid the fee for a short course. When will I have access to the course?  

Access to courses is generally available two weeks in advance of the scheduled course start date, or as advised in the registration confirmation email.  Course materials are made available via our Learning Management System (LMS) for which you will be provided with your username and initial password.

Can I arrange payment with a Purchase Order?
